Tyler (the county seat) is known as the “Rose Capital of the World” due to a long history of rose cultivation, production, and processing.
Smith County is home to over 220,000 residents which places it in the top 25 counties in the state. The county comprises 932 square miles of the East Texas Timberlands regions (much is covered in post oak, blackjack oak, tall grasses, heavily forested with pine and other hardwoods). Smith County agricultural enterprises annually averages $150,000,000 for area farmers, ranchers and horticultural operations. Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service in Smith County has a rich history of serving its citizens.
